# About me

I am Fernando Kylas. I design, build and look after websites, and I have done it professionally since 2008.

I have worked professionally with websites since 2008, when I joined an agency as a web designer. Over the years that work grew from design into development, search, user experience and the slower, less visible job of keeping sites healthy once they are live.

I was born and raised in Greece and built my professional life in Mauritius. I work directly with clients in Mauritius and internationally, and I regularly spend time in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France and the UK.

## What I have learnt

The real problem is rarely the website itself. It is usually the content nobody owns, the tools nobody chose on purpose or the login that left with the last developer. So I start by looking at the whole picture, then fix what matters first.

My clients have included businesses, NGOs and organisations across different sectors. What they tend to want is the same: a site that explains what they do, works on every device, is found by the right people and does not need a specialist for every small change.

## How I like to work

I keep things light. Fewer pages that each do one job. Fewer plugins. Standard tools over clever ones. Better digital should be lighter, and lighter sites are faster, cheaper to run and easier to look after.

You deal with me directly, from the first call to the last fix. I reply within 2 business days, in English or French.

fkweb.dev is the web design and development side of my work. For broader consultancy, see [fernandokylas.com](https://fernandokylas.com/).

Principles

## Better digital should be lighter

### Built to last

Simple, documented code and standard tools, so the site keeps working long after launch.

### You own everything

Domain, hosting, code and content are in your name. Every login is handed over.

### Fast by default

Light pages load quickly on any connection and use less energy doing it.

### Accessible to everyone

Readable, keyboard friendly and checked against WCAG 2.2 AA.

### Plain language

No jargon in proposals, reports or on your pages. If something is unclear, I rewrite it.

### One person, start to finish

You speak to the person doing the work, from the first call to the last fix.

How I work

## Four steps, in the same order every time

1. 01

    ### Audit

I look at what you have today: the site, the content, the data and how people use it. Then I tell you plainly what is working and what is not.

2. 02

    ### Decide

We agree the goals, the scope and the structure, in writing, before any design or build work starts.

3. 03

    ### Build

I design and build in short rounds, with a private preview link at every step, so there are no surprises at launch.

4. 04

    ### Sustain

After launch I look after the site, measure what changes and keep improving it, or hand it over cleanly to your team.
